Dear Visitor,
The pandemic has taught us many things and most are not good however we can make changes that can help us in our future.
Many people have lost their jobs through businesses closing or downsizing. Many people have also had to work from home rather than going to their place of work. While others of us have still gone to our place of work especially the front line workers for which we are extremely thankful for!
So what have we learned?
- We should have an emergency fund to help us get through tough times. Hopefully you have one and it is helping you through this. If you don't are one of the people working from home you probably have less expenses like using less gas for the car and maybe not having to purchase meals while at work. Why not take some of that savings and start to build an emergency fund just in case you need it. Our recommendation is to put it in a TFSA so when you need money you won't have to pay taxes on the growth. We tell people to start with saving one months worth of expenses then grow to 3 then 6 months and then to a year. If you don't need to withdraw money it will become part of your retirement fund later on in life.
You never know when you may be downsized or loose your job due to
the business closing. So if you wish to start a TFSA we would suggest
using a Segregated Fund which has guarantees that we can explain
to you if you would like more information.
2. We should have life insurance to protect our family just in case we
were to pass away unexpectedly. If you were to pass you would
want to know that family would be looked after and able to carry
on. Given the pandemic we people are dying from it and we can
take all the precautions like social distancing but it only takes a
small slip up and we may become infected Covid-19 something
we all don't want to see!
At South Coast Financial Services we can help you with setting up your emergency fund and making sure you have insurance to help your family just in case. We also don't have to meet in person, we can setup a virtual meeting and take care of all your needs electronically.
